About Rogue Wood
Rogue Wood is a one-man workshop based in Sintra, Portugal. It's run by me, Niels de Hoog. In my workshop I make cutting boards and wood furniture with as much care and precision as I am capable of.
Before starting Rogue Wood I worked as a visual journalist. I got into woodworking because a long COVID diagnosis forced me to take a step back from that career. As this was such a radical change of direction, I thought of it as going rogue. Hence the name.
To an outsider it may not be obvious why someone with this condition would be able to do manual work rather than a desk job. I won't bore you with a detailed explanation here, but suffice to say that woodworking allows me to work at my own pace, without overstimulating my brain, while simultaneously rebuilding some physical strength.
I am available to do custom projects on commission. Just be aware that I'm limited in what I can take on due to my condition. You can reach me by sending an email to: niels@roguewood.pt
